I spent my childhood bouncing around low-income communities in Guadalajara (Mexico), Los Angeles, and San Diego. Seeking a more stable situation for my children, I became the first person in my family to graduate from high school and go to college. Sure enough, after many long nights filled with diapers, homework, tantrums, and studying for final exams, I experienced the third-proudest moment of my life when I graduated from UC San Diego last June with both of my daughters by my side! In 8th grade, I became a founding member of Reality Changers, a program in San Diego that builds first generation college students. Back then, the organization had just $300 to its name, but today Reality Changers is California's leading tutoring program for scholarships. Alexa, Eliana, and I have adopted the name "Reality Changers" for our band as a way to describe the success that has blossomed from our humble beginnings.
