The new seat configuration would take advantage of the Airbus A320's extra 7.5-inch in-cabin width by reducing the middle and window seats to 17 inches — the same as on a Boeing 737 — while stretching the aisle seat to 20 inches. Detroit Mayor Dave Bing wants to create an authority that would borrow $160 million to upgrade and cut the number of streetlights to 46000. The city would save about $10 million a year on maintenance and power, and the move would help push residents out of derelict semi-abandoned neighborhoods the city can no longer afford to provide services to. Detroit is not the first city to go partially dark to save money. Colorado Springs, Santa Rosa, California, and Rockland, Illinois have also reduced the number of street lights to save money, as has Highland Park, a small city completely encircled by Detroit. Since 1950, as auto-industry jobs have disappeared, Detroit's population has shrunk from nearly 1.85 million to 713000. About 20 of the city's neighborhoods — areas at least a square mile in size — are 10 to 20 percent occupied. Many people, including police, do not know it's completely legal for women to go topless in the streets of New York. In 1992 New York State's highest court struck a state law prohibiting women, but not men, from being topless in public as violating the state constitution's equal protection clause. Most New Yorkers, however, are unaware that it has been completely legal to be topless in a public place for 20 years. Topless New York aims to put out an exhibit, calendar and book to raise awareness and change public opinion on this issue. Students graduating with an average student loan debt of around $25000 face bleak job prospects and are turning graduation ceremonies into student loan protests. This year's graduates are competing for jobs with last year's graduates, of whom fewer than half have found full-time employment. But those in the class of 2012 who borrowed huge sums and to pay first-tier prices for a worthless fifth-tier liberal arts degree might be complaining too much. To be sure, a college degree is still the key to greater economic success — if you study the right degree. The economy was bad when the class of 2012 entered college.
