In today's Mac Monday video I show you how to create Playlists and Smart Playlists. Playlists and Smart Playlists can be used as a way of organising your music collection into specific groups which can also be burnt to CD or transferred to your iOS device. To create a Playlist you need to hit the + icon on the lower left of the iTunes window or go to File - New Playlist. A Playlist will be created and you can give it a name. All you need to do then is to drag and drop either entire albums or individual tracks to make your playlist. Items can be re-arranged within your Playlist by clicking and dragging. Smart Playlists can be created by going to File - New Smart Playlist, you will then be presented with a list of criteria that you can select to automatically create your Smart Playlist. The Live Update option is important as this will keep your Smart Playlist constantly up to date as new music is added to your library. You can then give your Smart Playlist a name and if you need to re-arrange any tracks/albums you can do so by dragging and dropping. It's Friday which means it's time for TJ's Quicktip! Each week I will show you a tip or trick within Mac OS X or iOS, this week I show you how to use Keyboard Shortcuts within iOS. We're all used to using text speak or shortening words or phrases when we text or message someone. In iOS there is a handy feature that allows you to type a keyboard shortcut and have iOS automatically insert the full text. If you go into Settings - General - Keyboard and scroll to the bottom of the menu you will see the heading for Keyboard Shortcuts. There may already be a shortcut populated by default, but you can add your own in by tapping Add New Shortcut. Input the sequence of letters or a shortened version of the text then input the full text that you would like iOS to display. Whenever you type your shortcuts iOS will automatically change this to the full phrase or wording saving you valuable time when typing your messages. In today's Mac Monday video I show you bookmarks, top sites and reading list in Safari. Bookmarks is a great way of keeping all your frequently visited sites just a click away. To add a bookmark to your bookmarks bar/menu simply navigate to a website and hit the + icon to the left of the web address. Choose where you would like to add it to and click Add. You can view all your bookmarks by clicking the book icon in the upper left of the Safari window. They can then be organised by clicking and dragging to rearrange the order they appear in or you can add in folders if you wish to better organise them or to create drop down menus in the bookmarks bar. Top Sites displays your frequently visited sites in a grid view with a live update of each website. To access top sites click the grid style icon in the upper left of the Safari window. Top sites can be arranged by clicking and dragging and can be edited by clicking Edit in the lower left of the Safari window. To remove a site simply hit the X and to pin/unpin a site from your top sites board just click the drawing pin icon. Reading List allows you to keep tabs on web sites or web pages that you may want to refer to at a later date. To add a website or web page to your Reading List then simply hit the + icon to the left of the address bar. Reading List can be accessed by clicking the reading glasses icon in the upper left of the Safari window. This will display all the items that you have added to your reading list. If you <b>...</b>

You can easily change the look and layout of System Preferences, by clicking the View menu you can sort by category or alphabetically. You can also show or hide certain options by clicking on the Customize option in the View menu, all items are marked with a tick by default and you can easily remove ticks for items you wish to hide. As a bonus, if you click and hold on Show All when you are in a particular option then it will bring up a list of all the other available options for you to quick select for faster navigation.
