The 12 Hours of Sebring is an annual motorsport endurance race held at Sebring International Raceway, a former Army Air Force base in Sebring, Florida. This year, Falken Tire returns with the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR and a new team for the American Le Mans Series. Walker Racing is a racing team founded by Derrick Walker in 1991 racing originally in the CART Championship Car series. With Walker's direction, and the driving abilities of Bryan Sellers, Wolf Henzler and Martin Ragginger, Falken hopes to build on the results of their 2010 season at the first race of the 2011 American Le Mans Series.

Last weekend marked the 48th annual Tierra Del Sol Desert Safari in Ocotillo Wells, CA, and Falken Tires first year as an event sponsor and supporter. Despite forecasts of inclement weather, enthusiasts in RVs and Off Road vehicles were out in full force. Falken Tire was present with a compound complete with their trademark blue and teal scalloped Falken Motorsports rig as well as full vendor participation and R/C race track setup from HPI Racing. Although there were high gusts early in the week, the winds died down Thursday allowing for Falken staff and enthusiasts alike to truly appreciate the terrain and vehicles. Falken gave its SEMA project Jeep JK a workout, equipped with Wildpeak A/T tires. Over the course of 4 days, the Falken Tire JK and Wildpeak A/T tires were put to the test, enduring all types of conditions from hard packed dirt to crumbling sand - these tires were able to conquer it all! The Wildpeak A/T is currently available in 27 sizes ranging from 15-20 rim diameters and up to 33 tall. An additional 17 LOD (Large Overall Diameter) sizes up to 37 tall will launch in the fourth quarter of 2010. The Wildpeak A/T features a durable 3 ply sidewall (most sizes), allowing enthusiasts to venture wherever they desire, both on and off road. Friday night activities featured an open invitation bonanza at the Falken Tire compound, with complimentary Carne Asada tacos and refreshments. Qualifying on Friday was challenging as the judges were very critical of all efforts. Nevertheless, seven drivers on Falken Azenis RT615 tires made the field, including all Team Falken factory entrants McQuarrie; Vaughn Gittin, Jr.; Darren McNamara; Daijiro Yoshihara; and Calvin Wan, plus privateers Ross Petty (who was in fact the number two qualifier) and Taka Aono. Amid tough competition all day long, two Falken drivers advanced to the Top 8 Round, as both McQuarrie and Gittin defeated their opponents to move to the Top 4. Unfortunately, Gittin was involved in a collision during this run and was unable to advance, while teammate McQuarrie lost to eventual winner Forsberg. In the battle for third overall, it was Team Falken v. Team Falken, as McQuarrie came out on top over Gittin, who was able to compete despite his accident in the previous round. What's different for the ALMS competition 2009 season is this year, Falken is running its own team, based at its corporate headquarters in Fontana, CA. The car is the powerful Porsche 911 RSR. The 3.8-liter boxer engine of the GT3 RSR remains unchanged with the exception of slight improvements in specified areas. The motor delivers 465 hp at 8000 rpm. Weight of the race car is 2700 pounds. To ensure its competitiveness, Falken has developed a special Azenis RT Slick tire for this car, which the company will manufacture in Japan. A dedicated engineering and development crew will attend each ALMS competition event to observe and provide appropriate resources. Calvin has already had a long and varied career in motorsports, starting in 1996, and running in such diverse series including drag racing, autocrossing, rally crossing and motorcycles. Calvin also is a SAG (Screen Actors Guild) member and has provided numerous stunt driving assignments for television commercials, print ads and movies (including Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift and Crank 2: High Voltage). He is a published author, too, having written Calvin Wans Drifting Performance Handbook, which is distributed by Motorbooks International. On the drifting front, the San Francisco native, who, like his neighbor and team mate up the road, Tyler McQuarrie, has spent a fair amount of time at Sonomas Infineon Raceway. He has competed in every round of the Formula Drift Championship series since its augural season in 2004, and has become a fan favorite due to his laid back style and street image.. $LONG BEACH, CA Fontana, CA-based Falken Tire, well regarded for its high performance tires, officially entered the 2009 American Le Mans Series highly competitive GT2 class by competing at Long Beach with its in-house-prepared Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. The car was driven by veterans Dominic Cicero and Bryan Sellers and ran on specially prepared Falken AZENIS RT slicks. Qualified in eighth position by Sellers, the Team Falken Tire RSR ran within a second of the race podium-winning #92 BMW car, a considerable accomplishment for a brand new team and tire that has never previously experienced the unforgiving Long Beach street course. The Porsche moved to seventh on the grid after the pole-winning car was sent to the rear for a ride height infraction. Sellers started the race, but reported shifting problems early on. He continued to nurse the car for 30 laps, maintaining his position of seventh, but eventually had to retire the Porsche. The team finished 20th overall and 12th in class. The car was extremely consistent for a long time, Sellers said. I was able to run a steady pace for the whole stint never dropping off more than four-tenths of a lap until we had transmission problems. Co-driver Cicero agreed: The tires were consistent and held up very well in our practices. We feel we have a great product for the 2010 season.
